Networking at PSU

It wasn't until my junior year when I truly started to understand the importance of networking. I knew it was important, but I didn't fully grasp why. In my later years at PSU, I learned various ways to network along with why networking is so imperative.

In my experience, networking can be done anywhere. Online or in person. It can take place in any environment such as an office setting, an event, the classroom, even at the Hub. Even on social media like LinkedIn or Facebook. Anywhere. There are no limits.

Personally, I mainly network in person on campus, as well as online via LinkedIn. This semester I took time to analyze my online presence and build onto my LinkedIn profile. Since then, I have explored many job opportunities, connected with professors, peers, even possible employers.

Networking helps to develop professional and communication skills, as well as opens the door to job opportunities. From networking, I got an internship as well as a fellowship on campus. I have met many people who have helped and will help me become ready for the professional world.

Take advantage of the networking opportunities at PSU! Attend career fairs, student life events, talk to professors, be open.

What are your experiences with networking?

  1. My name is Abby Thomas and I am a recent graduate of Plymouth State. Some experiences that I have through PSU is the TRIO program, which is a program designed for first generation college students with academic financial struggles. I was a mentor the last two years and was a shoulder for young students to talk to. I loved being a mentor and being there for my younger classmates. TRIO is a great opportunity for students looking for support financially because of the TRIO scholarship.

  2. I'm Tia Cordeiro and I am a senior here at Plymouth State. Some of my best memories include going to Ski day. Plymouth offers one day out of the year where students get to ski and snowboard the whole day and there is no classes. I love to ski and I am always looking forward to this event every year.

  3. I'm Heather Matthews and I am currently a senior here at Plymouth State. One my favorite memories about PSU is that every year we have an event in the HUB called the first fire and it is the first time all year where they light the fireplace in the HUB and it signifies the start of winter here at Plymouth. The school provides us with a free mug and we get to fill it with hot chocolate and we get donuts also to celebrate.

  4. I'm Michaela Pateunade and I am currently a senior here at Plymouth State. My major is Nursing and it has been a roller coaster ride these last 4 years. This major is not easy at all and requires me to get an 80 and above every single class. Not only the nursing program attracted me to Plymouth but the location and environment here made me want to come to this school. I recently got involved and became the president of the Student Nursing Association. This has given me great professional connections in school and outside of school.

  5. My name is Anna Oulette and I am a senior here at Plymouth State. I am the Vice President of the Nicaragua club and we are a club that focuses on community service and are currently raising money to go to Nicaragua in May on a missions trip. We are going to help the people there and provide them with clean water and food. I am also currently an active sister with the sorority Delta Zeta and being apart of this sisterhood has helped me grow at PSU. I have made life long friendships and have helped the community for the better.

  6. My name is Cass Augustine and I am recently a former Plymouth student. I would be a senior but I decided to go into the work force after sophomore year. Plymouth has helped me prepare for the work force by giving me great communication and social skills and I learned how to work with others a lot better. I was a communications major here at PSU and my classes were educational and helpful. I would say that even though I don't attend Plymouth anymore I wouldn't trade coming here for anything in the world.

  7. My name is Mykala Merrill and I am currently am a senior here at Plymouth. I have a struggle that I have been dealing with the last 4 year, since my time here I have taken two classes that have been difficult and do not pertain to my future goals as a nurse. Some classes I've taken are geared toward a PT major rather than nursing so I am being forced to take classes that aren't prerequisites for my masters program. I am being forced to take multiple difficult classes at once in order to have the credits/courses I need for the program. I am basically adding more classes to my plate than I have to.

  8. My name is Danielle Quigley and I am a senior at Plymouth. I am currently stressed because I have one more semester left and I don't know what I am doing after graduation. I would love to stay at Plymouth and look into grad programs but I also don't know if I want to go out and get a job afterwards. I am stressed because I am not sure where my future will lead.

  9. Hi my name is Alyssa McGuinness and I am a senior here at Plymouth. My experiences here have been extremely prosperous and educational. I have made strong relationshios with both my peers and my professors. The small classes that are consisted of 25-30 students(besides lecture casses which consit only up to 60-80) are intimate enough to give any student the opportunity to ask questions and meet with their professors one-one-on. The community as this college is extremely unified and respectful to one another, making the campus a safe and exciting place to live. As a senior, you start to learn what you want in life. I have changed my major twice, and even with confirming a major that I love(Communication & Media Studies) , and still am not sure what I want to do with my life. I do know of, at least, a direction of where I am going and I feel that is important for anyone entering their freshman year of college. There are many resources that you can contact in order to do successfully in college. The most important advice I can give related to this is being active about contacting these resources in order to do well academically. Plymouth allows you to grow in order to experience hands-on, real world experiences. Overall, my best advice would be to use these four years(or more if you are planning on continuing your education), to network and build your resume as best you can.

  10. My name is Nicole Ruscillo and I am a senior here at Plymouth. My expeirence here has been a great ride. I decided to come to northern New Hamphire for school and it has been the best decision that I could've made. I think Plymouth State is an amazing school with the academics and the beauty of the campus. I am extremly sad to leave this school as I move on to bigger things. The teachers here are amazing, they care so much about you and actually want you to see you succeed. My best advice that I can give to an incoming freshman is to balance your social life and school life. It is going to definitly be difficult at first but you will soon realize the balance. Dont be afraid to ask for help because there is tutors that will help you succeed if you are struggling
